Meet Someeka Washington, LCSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker | Member of the SWEET Institute Community

 

Hi, I’m Someeka Washington, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker licensed in New York and New Jersey, offering telehealth therapy. I specialize in helping busy moms, dads, professionals, and students achieve balance, harmony, and fulfillment while managing life’s challenges and multiple responsibilities.

I integrate evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and a Strength-Based Perspective, tailoring every session to your unique needs. My goal is to provide a supportive space for reflection, growth, and alignment with your values.

As someone who has faced rigid patterns, burnout, and the challenges of balancing motherhood, work, and personal growth, I understand how overwhelming life can feel. My journey toward clarity and fulfillment began with creating an 8 Dimensions of Wellness vision board, a tool that became a catalyst for realigning my priorities and finding peace and purpose. Today, I am proud to live with greater peace and purpose, and I’m passionate about helping others achieve the same.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

We use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a proven, evidence-based approach that focuses on identifying and challenging negative thought patterns contributing to emotional distress and unhelpful behaviors. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

By fostering psychological flexibility, individuals can adapt to life’s challenges and pursue a meaningful, values-driven life across the 8 Dimensions of Wellness.

 

ACT incorporates six core processes to support this growth:

     1.  Acceptance: Embracing thoughts and feelings without judgment.

     2.  Cognitive Defusion: Reducing the influence of unhelpful thoughts  by creating distance from unhelpful thoughts.

     3.  Mindfulness: Staying present and connected to the moment.

     4.  Self-as-Context: Viewing oneself as separate from thoughts and emotions.

     5.  Values Clarification: Identifying what truly matters.

     6.  Committed Action: Taking meaningful steps aligned with personal values.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

Motivational Interviewing (MI) aligns with the Transtheoretical Model's six stages of change, guiding individuals through precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, maintenance, and termination. MI fosters a supportive environment using the OARS framework: Open-Ended Questions, Affirmations, Reflective Listening, and Summarizing, empowering clients to explore readiness for change, set values-driven goals, and commit to action. Goal setting in MI is a collaborative effort, ensuring that clients feel supported and actively engaged in creating meaningful and achievable plans for change.

To identify your current stage:

Reflect on your awareness: Are you conscious of a behavior that needs change? Assess your intentions: Have you started planning or taking steps toward change?

 

Evaluate your actions: Are you actively working on changing the behavior, or have you maintained the new behavior for an extended period? By integrating MI with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), we enhance the process of addressing mental health concerns like anxiety, depression, and stress while promoting growth in areas such as physical health, relationships, and personal development. The Strength-Based Perspective

The Strength-Based Perspective focuses on identifying and utilizing an individual’s strengths to foster growth, confidence, and empowerment. This approach helps clients align their actions with their values while building resilience to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals.

 

Key techniques include:
